Deus in Machina: The Modern Mythopoesis of Colossus: The Forbin Project
Based on an examination of the film Colossus: The Forbin Project, this study considers myth, cinema, and Science Fictions as three manifestations of a single human drive, namely the desire to interpret and understand our place in the universe. Through a consideration of one technophobic narrative, it argues that the 'mythic mindset' has tended to view technological progress as inherently threatening, and that such a world-view should be confronted and challenged. Myth is intrinsically didactic; we need to consider the utility of what it teaches.
