Mothers Confined:part 2. Over the Threshold
This section of the 3 part article highlights the number of women serving custodial sentences for non violent offences and would therefore often be appropriately dealt with by means of a community disposal. The article suggests the bar of 'so serious' as to warrent custody is not applied or subject to sufficient rigour and in addition highlights proposals for change in exisiting frameworks which would reduce the number of women, specifically mothers sentenced to custody.
