Abstract
This paper examines the work of artists Via and Pina Lewandowsky. As young artists, trained in the GDR but entering post-educational practice just a year or two prior to the Wende, their artistic activity spans the turbulent period. They have successfully entered and negotiated the field of professional artistic practice during the decade since then. This examination of a small part of their work situates their continuting artistic practice in the broader context of issues concerning the place of the visual cultural heritage of the GDR in the current and future culture of a politically and economically unified Germany.
