dc.description This paper challenges the limitations of traditional quantifiable risk analysis demonstrating how this is a major contributor to significant software failures. The Software Development Impact Statement (SoDIS) process described is a new approach to risk analysis which is proven to reduce significantly the likelihood of software failure. The process has been applied in a range of projects, for example, electronic voting for Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, inventory system for Keane Inc. (USA) and personnel database for Commercial Information Systems (NZ) Ltd in New Zealand. SoDIS has attracted interest from professional bodies, e.g. IMIS. en
