dc.description This paper presents a new characterization of the consistency property for fuzzy preference relations defined by the additive transitivity property. This characterization permits checking whether a given fuzzy preference relation is consistent, and to construct consistent fuzzy preference relations from a set of n - 1 preference data. According to the ISI database: cited 22; 5th most cited paper out of the total 2478 papers published in EJOR; classed as a Highly Cited paper (in top 1% of most cited papers). Impact factor of the journal is 0.918. en
