Clothing, Care and Compromise: A Case Study of the Storage of the Hodson Shop Collection, 1983-2015
This chapter explores the complexities of the museum storage of clothing collections through a case study of the storage of Walsall Museum's Hodson Shop Collection - a collection of over 5,000 items of everyday and mass-produced 20th century clothing. The storage of this collection demonstrates that the museum store is far from a static and stable space, with stored objects subject to a host of external social, political, economic and cultural factors and conflicts.
