Understanding lesbians’ healthcare behaviour: the case of breast self-examination

This paper makes an important contribution to the under-researched subject of lesbians’ breast health care. It presents qualitative data about lesbians’ reasons for not practising breast-self exam. Social Science & Medicine was chosen because it is ranked second in Journal Citation Reports for Social Sciences (biomedical) and has an impact factor of 2.619. The article has been cited in 6 journals listed in Scopus 2007. The paper has led to invitations to act as reviewer for the international journal Cancer, and the work on which it is based has been included on Stonewall’s website as important research on lesbian health.
